About Spain
Spain occupies most of the Iberian Peninsula in southwest Europe. It
borders southwest of France and it is surrounded by the
Mediterranean Sea, Biscay Bay and North Atlantic Ocean. A peaceful
transition to democracy following the death of Dictator, Francisco
Franco in 1975, and rapid economic modernization (Spain joined the
EU in 1986), have given Spain the most dynamic economies in Europe.
It is nearly as large as the states of Nevada and Utah combined. The
Spanish are a composite of Mediterranean and Nordic ancestry but are
considered a homogenous ethnic group. Spaniards place a high value
on how they are perceived. Personal pride and appearance are very
important. Spain is parliamentary monarchy. The climate is
wonderfully temperate, clear with hot summers in interior, more
moderate and cloudy along the coast. The winters are cloudy and cold
in interior, partly cloudy and cool along the coastline.
The terrain is mainly flat to
dissected plateau surrounded by rugged hills. There are beautiful
mountains of Pyrenees in the north.
