HIGHLIGHT A DIFFERENT INTERNATIONAL STAFF PERSON |
|||
|
Each week of camp we highlight a different international staff person. That staff person then spends the week submerging the campers in food, arts, dance, games and history of their country.
One staff person
from Nepal had the campers wrap their bed sheets around themselves like saris. She then taught them a traditional dance from childhood for young woman.
How did the activity increase international understanding and/or cultural
awareness among your campers and staff?
This started a discussion on what we here in America do to honor children as they progress into adulthood.
They soon discovered that, depending on your geographical area, religion or heritage, this could be very different from family to family here in the States.
Many saw the similarity to the Nepali dance and the dance of another staff person who came from Africa.
