INTERNATIONAL CAMPERS |
||||
|
During the 1988 summer Hidden Valley hosted the first group of campers hailing from what was then the Soviet Union.
The month-long stay here of 4 young people ushered in a new era at the camp and we now host children from that part of the world each summer. For
example, in 1989, we hosted a group of Armenian children orphaned in that region’s earthquakes.
How did the activity increase international understanding and/or cultural
awareness among your campers and staff?
As you can imagine, this experience was quite meaningful for all the Americans at Hidden Valley, both campers and staff.
We all relished the opportunity to meet children from a country with whom the U.S. has had a difficult relationship.
