INTERNATIONAL NIGHT |
||||
|
International Night:
Entire camp participates; instead of
supper in the dining hall, it is held at 4 separate locations in camp that have
outdoor fire circles. Each circle area represents a different country (4 countries
in all). Each fire circle area would prepare food over an open fire pertaining
to a specific country. Each location also has music, national flag, and costumes
that pertain to that country. The camp is divided into 4 groups - one at each
fire circle - and they remain at that country’s fire circle for 30 minutes and then
we rotate the 4 groups. This continues until all 4 groups have been to all
4 countries. China - stir fry; Mexico - tacos; Puerto Rico - Arroz con pollo;
Russia - sour beef; Middle East - shish kabob; Greece - gyros; etc.
How did the activity increase
international understanding and/or cultural awareness among your campers and staff? Develops familiarity with foods,
music, clothing, and customs.
