Student must also bring food from that country to share at international luncheon. Thus, participants learn to cook and taste another type of food.
˝ day event, 8 am - 2 pm Saturday. End of summer day camp season - 150-200 participants, 10-12 nationalities, minimum expense,
good P.R. for YMCA.
How did the activity increase international understanding and/or cultural
awareness among your campers and staff?
1. Camp participants learned about a new country, its location - its culture and
language - even its food, games, songs, and customs.
2. They learned about their flag.
3. They were also able to participate in sports as most other cultures - no winner -
no score keeping - everyone won and everyone learned to respect everyone else’s customs.
