What to Bring
Before you leave home, be sure you have considered the following:
  Packing Advice
  •
  • Limit yourself to 15 kilos. You will regret taking too much and you will want to purchase more in the USA.

  •
  • If you plan to do any traveling around the United States, we suggest a backpack as it is much easier to manage than a suitcase.

  •
  • Pack according to the season of your stay and your destinations. Do some research regarding the temperature and climate of the state and area you will be living in the USA. More than one participant has arrived dressed in summer clothes and arrived in Colorado in November to find snow.

  •
  • Remember that you may have to go a whole week between laundries and bring enough clothing to get through the week during the hot season.

  •
  • Do not bring valuables. You may have difficulty finding a secure place for them.

      Finances:
  •
  • BRING MONEY IN U.S. DOLLAR TRAVELERS' CHECKS ONLY! Stolen or lost travelers' checks can be replaced, but cash cannot.

  •
  • Bring enough money to cover those expenses that will not be met by your job wage. Having additional money sent from home can take a long time.

  •
  • Bring emergency funds for unexpected problems that may arise on your way to the job site.

  •
  • Bring a credit card for emergencies, for car rental or purchasing things such as concert tickets or train tickets over the phone.
