Trainee and Intern Program Opportunities at

YMCA Camp Duncan - Ingleside, Illinois

 

Greetings from YMCA Camp Duncan!  Located about one hour north of Chicago,  Camp Duncan is a great place to learn, grow, and gain experiences of a lifetime.  With over 300 acres of rolling hills, a 60-acre lake, and lots of great activities like a climbing tower, high ropes, archery, teams course, wagon rides, and much more.  Camp Duncan has a lot to offer! 

 

We are always looking for qualified applicants to join our team for 12 -18 months in the Trainee (18 months) or Intern (12 months) programs.  YMCA Camp Duncan welcomes 5-7 international Trainees each February.  There is a very intensive training at the beginning of the program and then you put it all into practice with campers of all ages.  You will be able to lead and facilitate groups, welcome customers, design new programs and much more.   

 

Requirements

 

-          Must speak English

-          Must have experience in education/teaching

-          Must like to travel

-          Must be willing to commit to 12-18 months

-          Must enjoy working with people from all over the world

-          Must be energetic and enthusiastic

-          Must enjoy teaching and being in the outdoors

 

Information about Camp

 

-          Camp Duncan pays for required J-1 visa, processing fees, insurance and also gives each trainee a weekly stipend while at camp. 

-          Stipend is US$130.00 per week for the first 6 months, US$140.00 per week for the second 6 months, and US$150.00 per week for the third 6 months.  After completion of the entire training program a $250.00 bonus is added.

-          All Camp Duncan international staff members live in a new dormitory.  Rooms sleep 4-6 people.  

-          Days can be long.  Sometimes we begin teaching as early as 8:30 AM and end with songs around a campfire at 8:30 PM.

-          Activities include:  boating, archery, 50-foot climbing tower, 6-station High Ropes Course, low ropes Teams Course; there are 20 classes in our Outdoor Education Curriculum

-          Groups are coming to camp almost every day from March 1st—December 1st.  Groups include:  Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Church Groups, Schools, Dad/Daughter Programs, Universities and others.
