SEVIS
The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)
SEVIS is an internet-based system of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that tracks and monitors information on nonimmigrant J-1 exchange visitors.
It is very important that you report your U.S. addresses so that the YMCA knows you have arrived. SEVIS validation is not only important for monitoring purposes, but is also required before the Social Security Administration will process applications for SSNs.
***IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ****
Please Validate after arriving in the U.S. at your site of activity. Validate no later than 5 days after you arrive. Validate with the address where you are living, not where you are working or training."
