The Harlem YMCA, in conjunction with International YMCA,
is pleased to announce that it has been selected by the
YMCA of Greater New York as one of the pilot sites for
launching it New American Welcome Centers
In line with its
commitment to better serve the immigrant
population of New York City, the YMCA of Greater New York
is seeking to open four Welcome Centers by 2008 to help
immigrants achieve literacy, culture competence, and self-
sufficiency. These centers will serve as multilingual
information resource and referral centers and will connect
immigrants with w wide array of instructional, vocational,
family support, and human services on site or in
collaboration with partner agencies within the community.
Instructional services will include English as a Second
Language, Cultural Orientation, Citizenship Preparation,
Job Readiness, and Computer Literacy
