Program
Vision and Goal
The YMCA Language Center will provide effective language
Instruction. Our programs will provide essential language skills
and practices following a rigorous curriculum in a fun and engaging
environment to improve our students’ English proficiency. Our
teachers will utilize effective methodology and techniques, through
individualized instruction and group activities, and use the latest
technology (CD Rom, Internet, etc.) to increase our students’
English proficiency. The YMCA Mission and Values will provide the
foundation for this program.

Adult Literacy Program
ALP operates two types of programs:

First, the ELESAIR Project (English Language and Employment
Services for Adult Immigrants and Refugees), a community outreach
program that provides free educational and social services to
refugees and other disenfranchised communities at YMCA branches
citywide, including health referrals, job readiness workshops,
language classes and civic/democratic participation awareness—all
with the aim of preparing them to be full participants in a
democratic society. Second, the YMCA Language Center
offers fee-based courses such as GED Preparation and
Pronunciation/Accent Reduction classes to kids and adults in New
York City who want to improve their language skills.

English Immersion Program

EIP provides 2-4-Week Residential English
Immersion Programs for business executives, young professionals and
international students. We teach General English Immersion,
Business English, How to Teach ESL/ESOL and/or TOEFL Preparation.
It is a fast and effective program in which participants will learn
the English Language for up to 8 hours a day – a total of 80-160
hours of instruction and activities – in Camp or in the heart of New
York City!

Foreign Language Program

FLP provides 8-Week Intensive Foreign Language
Courses (Spanish, Japanese, Chinese) targeting YMCA of Greater New
York members and non-members. It is a fast and effective program
where participants will learn a foreign language for up to 8 hours a
week – a total of 50 hours of formal instruction and cultural
orientation. |
