Out of 1800 ICCP participants in 2006, most will be healthy all summer!
Chances are your ICCP participants will be fine, but what if they are not?
ICCP participants are covered by sickness and accident insurance for the first twelve weeks they are on the
ICCP program. If they stay in the United States longer than twelve weeks, they must buy additional insurance.
This requirement is part of the terms of their visa. ICCP will mail information on buying insurance to all participants at camp in August.
If an ICCP participant is hurt while working at camp, the camp's workmen's compensation plan should provide
insurance, just as with any camp staff member.
If an ICCP participant becomes ill, or is hurt while not working, health and accident insurance is provided
by: World Student Insurance. There is a $100,000 limit per illness or injury.
Any illness or condition which began before arrival in the United States will not be covered by World Student
Insurance.
Dental care is not covered by World Student Insurance.
What ICCP participants have been told to do if they need medical treatment:
1.) See the camp nurse. The camp nurse is the best person to assess what should be done.
2.) If the participant needs to see a doctor, or visit a clinic, the Medical Claim Form must be taken at the
same time. Most clinics and hospitals will not treat a patient until proof of insurance is presented.
3.) The ICCP participant will need to pay $10.00 (US) for each medical visit. They have been instructed to
take the $10.00 with them.
4.) The signed medical claim form should be left with the doctor, clinic, or hospital at the time of the visit.
5.) Write or call ICCP to ask for additional claim forms.
6.) The claim form is sent directly to the insurance company by the doctor, clinic, or hospital. If the
participant forgets to leave the claim form, he or she could become responsible for the cost of the medical treatment beyond the $10.00.
A tip to help be prepared:
ICCP participants have been instructed to keep a medical claim form with their passport along with $10.00.
How to avoid frustration:
Each year clinics or camp directors mail medical insurance claim forms to the ICCP office in New York.
There is very little ICCP can do with these claims except return them to the camp with instructions. The camp infirmary log contains the
record of the illness or accident as reported to the camp nurse. We have no similar record in New York.

Each year camps receive bills for the $10.00 deductible which participants forget to pay at the time of the
medical visit. Please be certain that all such bills are paid before the participant leaves your camp at the end of the summer.
Extending insurance:
ICCP estimates that 75% of its participants will choose to travel in the United States after camp. Any participant remaining
in the United States for more than 12 weeks will need to purchase additional sickness and accident insurance in order to comply with the regulations governing the J-1 visa.
In August ICCP will mail insurance applications directly to participants at camp which are to be used to purchase additional weeks of insurance. |
