InsuranceReview insurance information as it is outlined in the participant manual.
Objective: By the end of this session each participant will understand the need to have insurance in the United States, and understand the details of their sickness and accident insurance coverage.
ProcessAsk participants to take out their insurance sheets. (Have participants’ insurance sheets ready) The J- 1 Visa requires that participants have insurance during their entire stay in the U.S., including the 30 days of travel time after the DS-2019 form expires.
Participants will be told that they are covered by sickness and accident insurance for the first 16 weeks on the ICCP Program. Participants staying in the U.S. longer than 16 weeks MUST obtain additional insurance. (link to Gateway insurance plan)
The insurance coverage begins the day before ICCP Arrival Orientation. There is a $10.00 dollar deductible (explain what a deductible is). If a participant gets hurt while working at camp, they should be covered by the camp’s Workers Compensation Insurance. Participants should see their camp director as soon as possible if they are hurt while working at camp. Explain what is Worker’s Compensation Insurance If a participant becomes ill or hurt while not working, World Student Insurance provides their insurance. That is ICCP insurance.
Any illness or condition that began before U.S. arrival will NOT be covered by insurance. Medical treatment and drugs are very expensive in the U.S. Many drugs that are available in other countries are not legally available here without prescription. Please tell participants to bring any prescriptions that they may have for any pre-existing medical condition.
Dental, eye care, and pregnancy are not covered by the insurance.
What to do if you need Medical treatment
Remember, if you forget to leave the claim form you could become responsible for the cost of the medical treatment. This could cost you thousands of dollars.
Do not wait until it is too late to try to extend the insurance coverage if you will remain in the U.S.A. longer than 16 weeks.
How long is sixteen 16 weeks?
Insurance begins the day before the start day on the DS-2019 form.
