Service Corps: Panama
The Young Men’s
Christian Association of Panama was founded and obtained its Judicial
Procuration in 1966. From its inception, it has dedicated itself to
serving needy young people in the capital of Panama city. Over time,
it has expanded to rural projects especially in the native region of
Darien.
Program
Description:
YMCA Panama offers
an English course program for adults and businesses interested in
improving their employees’ English in the English Language Center of
the Panama City YMCA. Along with this program, the YMCA manages social
work programming developed for the Youth Community Center of la
Chorrera.
International
volunteers will assist with the regular English program which offers
morning, afternoon, and evening classes divided into six levels from
beginning to intermediate II.
There is additional
need for volunteers to support the YMCA school in working with
teachers there to improve English language skills.
Accommodations and
Board:
All volunteers will
be picked up from the airport by YMCA staff and housed in YMCA guest
housing located directly adjacent to the YMCA offices in Panama City.
Working Hours and
Free Time:
Most volunteers
will have mornings free with English classes 2-5pm and/or 6-9pm.
Weekends are free for international teachers.
