8^th Seminar on Education for Peace, Madrid, Spain

The Seminar on Education for Peace gathers 30 young adult leaders ages 21-30 from YMCAs around the globe to share their realities, experiences, and best practices in global peace and conflict resolution. This one-week long experience provides a unique opportunity to build peace locally and globally through formal training, networking, and hands-on experience. This global opportunity is ideal to foster cultural competencies, cross-cultural understanding, and international networks of YMCA leaders.

 YMCA Youth Peace Network, Vancouver, Canada

The YMCA Youth Peace Network is a select group of 30-35 young adult leaders ages 21-30 from YMCAs around the globe. It is an opportunity to build peace locally and globally by training youth leaders in peace, conflict resolution, and social justice. This three-month long experience fosters leadership skills, builds cultural competencies, and increases regional and international networks. This is based on a belief in the empowerment of youth and children, and of their capacity to create change.

YMCA Mano a Mano Youth Summit, US-Mex Border

The YMCA Mano a Mano Youth Summit is a two-week long Youth Leadership Summit of the YMCAs of Canada, Mexico, and the United States for YMCA leaders ages 18-25 who are interested in global migration issues or who work with immigrant populations. Since 1991, more than 470 youth from North, Central, and South America, and Spain have participated of the program. Mano a Mano focuses on global issues impacting youth and their communities and emphasizes service-learning, civic engagement, and community development. Participants support programs for at risk youth at the YMCA Migrant Homes along the US-Mex border. Summit starts and concludes in Tijuana, Mexico.

YMCA International Youth Games, São José Dos Campos, Brazil

The YMCA International Youth Games is a sports event that promotes cultural exchange, fellowship, and Christian values among adolescent and young adults ages 15 – 21 from around the world.  At least 500 athletes from different regions of Brazil and the world are expected to participate in the 2011 edition in various sports such as indoors soccer, volleyball, basketball, handball, table tennis, and swimming. Individual and/or group registrations are accepted. The event will take place in São José Dos Campos, Brazil (50 miles from São Paulo City).

YMCA International Conference, San Francisco, CA

The YMCA International Conference, established in 1998, is a tri-national summit hosted by the YMCAs of Mexico, Canada, and the United States. The goal of the conference is to support and to strengthen the local and global work of North American YMCAs through collaboration and sharing of technical resources including best practices. Through workshops, keynote speakers, peer-to-peer interaction, cultural events, and an exhibit area, attendees will learn about the most pressing issues impacting YMCAs at both the local and national levels, an how YMCAs are responding. Attendees include staff and volunteers from YMCAs all around the world.

International Leadership Institute

The International Leadership Institute (ILI) is a global immersion and study experience that captures the spirit of the YMCA mission. It is designed to build leadership skills, cultural competencies, cross-cultural understanding, and creates a platform for intercultural dialogue and learning amongst the YMCA family. ILIs explore the roots and impacts of global migration through the lenses of migrants, YMCA staff and volunteers, community leaders, and governments. In addition, ILIs develop an understanding of the socio-economic, political, and cultural reality of the YMCAs in each country.
